Leadership Safety Coaching - effective sharing of experience​

Situation​

 

A national oil company’s safety performance had slipped over 2 consecutive years and Executive leadership required a turn around in behavioural and process safety performance.​

Task​

 

The task was to develop and deliver a safety coaching programme to enhance overall safety leadership capability across the company and its contractors. ​

Action​

  • The programme design included modules on management of risk, effective communication, leadership styles, role of leaders in safety management, effective safety conversations and action planning​

  • A total of 39, 2 day Safety Leadership coaching programmes were delivered, attended by 450 leaders in the company and its contractors. The first programme was with the MD and his Directors, followed by Directors and their immediate reports, continuing with a cascade across and through the organisation. ​

Results​

  • Attendee feedback was universally strong and positive in terms of a achieving an insightful, interactive workshop that (1) strengthened individual leaders capability in safety and (2) increased self confidence in their ability to lead behavioural and process safety.​

  • An improvement to the company’s safety performance was delivered​
